Endless While Loop

Life without a break;

On BarCamp Philly

barcamp_badge_125px.pngTwo days ago I ventured down to UArts for Philadelphia's first ever BarCamp. For those that don't know, a BarCamp is a conference (or unconference depending on how you look at it) in which all the sessions throughout the day are determined the day of the BarCamp. Saturday's BarCamp was Philly's first ever attempt at a BarCamp, and the organizers nailed it.

170 people attended and participated throughout the day and filled the schedule board with dozens of interesting sessions ranging from iPhone programming to personal branding and new media. There was even an awesome mobile version of the session schedule to avoid running back and forth to see what was happening (I'm not sure if this is a regular thing with tech. conferences, but I was impressed with it).

There were seven session timeslots for the entire day. Some of my favorites included Learn to Make Cheesy iPhone Apps 101, The Internet Sux - unfollowing, cancelling, unfriending, unplugging - a roundtable discussion, and an awesome talk by Comcast Interactive Media on how they scale Comcast.net. The last session I attended was an open discussion on the Philadelphia tech. scene. This one was a real eye-opener for me since I'm new to the city (see my last post). It really showed that Philadelphia has a lot going for its technology scene, and we managed to fill an entire whiteboard with things to do in the city.

I've never been to any other sort of technology conference before, but BarCamp Philly sure has set my expections for future (un)conferences.

Epic! I found this site on yahoo poking around for something else entirely, and now I'm going to have to go through all the old material! Good bye free time today, but this was a truly spectacular find!!!

Hi. I needed to drop you a quick note to impart my thanks. I've been following your blog for a month or so and have picked up a heap of solid information as well as enjoyed the way you've structured your site. I am attempting to run my own blog however I think its too general and I would like to focus more on smaller topics.

I am stricken by the way you addressed this topic. It is not often I come across a blog with engrossing articles like yours. I will bookmark your feed to stay up to date with your approaching updates.Just amazing and do continue up the good work.

Very interesting post, thanks! I have been studying doing cryptography in Java recently and I am learning a lot from that. Tricky stuff!

Thanks so much for this great post, This is exactly the thing I needed today :D

This is a great place, I can not believe that I didn't find it earlier!
